The DR will bring you fun with a comparison between two species of gorillas. This safari will start and end in Kigali. It will specifically bring you to Kahuzi Biega national park, home to the lowland gorillas, and take you to Virunga National park home to the few remaining mountain gorillas in Congo, then you will also enjoy the hiking of Nyiragongo the active volcano with the best views of the lava lake on it’s top. The volcano’s forest lower slopes are home to a variety of animals including chimpanzees, Monkeys, and bushbucks.

Tour Plan

DAY 1: Transfer to Bukavu – Kahuzibeiga National Park

Start this morning with a delicious breakfast, your guide from Kofi Travel safaris will pick you and transfer you to Congo in Bukavu. You will visit Butare Museum, Nyanza Kings Palace and time allowing visit Murambi Genocide Memorial after lunch and proceed with your journey passing through the Nyungwe forest with high chances to spot monkeys long the way.

You will then cross the border at Cyangugu and overnight stay at

DAY 2: Lowland Gorilla tracking & Community visit

On this day after your breakfast, your guide will drive you to Kahuzi Biega National Park office where your gorilla trekking experience begins. This is a gathering point for the briefing about the dos and Don’ts of lowland gorilla trekking.

Trekking these gorillas here is on flat forested ground so not as strenuous as when trekking mountain gorillas. Once you find them, you will be allowed a period of one hour with them taking pictures and observing their behaviors. In the afternoon, you will visit the nearby community and have a chance to interact with the local people, head to the lodge Dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: Transfer to Kibuye and Boat ride

In the morning after your breakfast, the Congo Gorilla Safari guide will help you cross via Cyangugu border post, proceed to Kibuye in Rwanda passing through different villages enjoying beautiful scenic Lake Kivu shores.

On arrival you will have lunch thereafter go for a boat ride on Lake Kivu to explore the return of the islands for evening relaxation at your hotel dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 4: Transfer to Goma in DR. Congo

After your morning relaxed breakfast, your guide will take you to another scenic drive along the shores of Lake Kivu, to Gisenyi then crossover to Goma in Congo where you will spend your night.

Accommodation options: Mikeno Lodge, Bukima Tented Camp, Kibumba Tented Camp prior your mountain gorilla tracking next day.

DAY 5: Mountain Gorilla trekking in Virunga national park and community visit

In the morning, you will have your Congo Gorilla Safari breakfast thereafter report to Virunga National Park headquarters for the pre-trekking briefing about mountain gorillas. You will the set off to track the famous mountain gorillas together with your armed ranger guide who will search and interpret to you the gorilla behaviors.

The gorilla tracking time will depend on the movement of the entire team and the location of the gorillas themselves. Later in the evening you can visit nearby community to meet and interact with local people. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 6: Nyiragongo Hike experience

On this day you will have breakfast early morning, then you guide will take you to the briefing at the hiking departure point at Kibati patrol post which is approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Goma and less than an hour from Mikeno lodge.

The hiking experience usually starts at 10:00AM and will take approximately 4-6 hours depending on the speed and strength of the participants in order to reach the summit of the volcano. You will then enjoy the views of the summit, have dinner and stay overnight at the Summit shelter Camp.

DAY 7: Descend back, cross to Gisenyi and drive back to Kigali.

In the morning you will descend back from the Volcano and continue to the border to crossover again to Rwanda. You will then proceed to Kigali where you will be dropped at the Airport for your departure or at your Hotel.

I Very went on two trips with Kadafi , because one really wasn't enough. It doesn't matter where Kadafi takes you, he loves to tell you everything about Uganda. His enthusiasm makes you love Uganda just as much as he does. Kadafi can customize every trip and will make sure it will be everything you want it to be. If you do not take Kofi tours as your Ugandan experience, then you would have missed on the most vital aspects of the true inside local visit. They are experienced, professional, patient, and adventurous. And plus, with all those packages, they are relatively cheaper than others.
